Branson, Missouri is a popular tourist destination that finds its way on plenty of top travel lists each year. However, you may be surprised to find it on Wallet Hub’s list of “Best Beach Towns to Live in” for 2017, since it is not located along the coast! Branson, along with many of the cities on the list, qualified as a beach town due to its lakefront location.
The top of the best beach towns list includes three cities in Florida and two inland towns, like Branson, that are located on lakes rather than the ocean. Ranked No. 1 is Naples, Florida, followed by Key West, Florida, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Traverse City, Michigan; rounding out the top five is St. Augustine, Florida. Branson, Missouri breaks into the top 100 at No. 92 on the list.
Wallet Hub considered six main factors when compiling their list of top beach towns: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education & health, and quality of life. They then ranked 227 cities on these categories and assigned a weighted score to each city, taking their ranking for each category into consideration.
Overall, Branson ranked highest in quality of life, being ranked 11th out of 227 cities. Branson also received high rankings in affordability and weather. Surprisingly, this family friendly vacation destination scored lowest in security, being ranked at No. 214 in that category. However, overall Branson received high marks across the board.
